While he’s calling them snakes, he's specifically using vipers as the best metaphor everyone listening will understand. It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it.
