I feel it is important for children to know about America's past and to learn to do better in their lifetime. Of course I know about segregation but I'd never heard that blacks weren't allowed to try on clothes or shoes at the store.
I also love that this story helps kids of today see how it use to be. Story centers on one of the daily assaults to dignity of the Jim Crow era - namely, that those of African ancestry were not allowed to try on shoes in shoe stores before purchasing.
